Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me. :la:
Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang. :D
The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Well like this morning, I know I have to pick up my daughter at 2:00, and that I will be leaving at the last possible minute because I am really busy right now, and so I want to make sure I have my iPhone, iPad, Money, wallet, shades, keys, reading glasses...

So I can't find my sunglasses and I am running around my house looking for them, and everywhere I go there is something else I need to do that I had forgotten and so I finish that, organize, move on. Finally, half the morning has gone by and I stop to, well, I had to pee.

So I unbutton my jeans and as I am looking down I see the sun glasses I have been looking for all morning hanging around my neck.

Well, like today I was running around like crazy setting up for this session. And I need my Duct tape. I am looking all over for it, finding a million other things to do along the way. Finally, I give up and start to call my assistant to tell her to pick some up on her way in and I look at my feet and there it is on the floor.
